Why did ziggy palffy retire

Palffy hung up his skates for good, announcing his decision on Wednesday in somewhat poetic fashion. Already I do not want to travel anywhere. Did it enough. And so ends the career of a player who never seemed to get his due. Heck, just this past season playing back in his native Slovakia Palffy was a monster, racking up 83 points in just 48 games. I don't care what the quality of competition is, to do that in the professional ranks at age 41 is impressive.

Just look at what he had done in the past few years in Slovakia. It's not like it was that out of the ordinary for Palffy, though. He spent 12 seasons in the NHL , last playing for Pittsburgh way back in at the age of Ziggy Palffy, among the most skilled players to ever wear a Kings jersey, announced his retirement from hockey today.

From the IIHF website :. At this point, I believe that I quit. Already I do not want to travel anywhere. Palffy, 41, last played in the NHL in when he posted 42 points in 42 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He had appeared with his hometown Slovakian club HK 36 Skalica for the past five seasons and posted 73 points in 39 games as a 40 year old in Palffy told Patrick of his decision Tuesday morning, but both agreed not to announce it until Wednesday because Patrick hoped Palffy would reconsider.

Palffy first injured his right shoulder in January when playing for the Los Angeles Kings. Palffy had two reconstructive surgeries, but the problems persisted.

Despite the injury, Palffy managed 11 goals and 42 points in 42 games for the Penguins this season, but hadn't scored since last Dec.
