However, his plate discipline did not translate against the advanced competition. Though, he did manage to swat 21 home runs in a shortened season with Triple-A and found himself back on the Giants roster in September of where he recorded one hit in 18 sparse at-bats. At that point, it had been clear that he had fallen considerably down the outfield depth chart. The year-old remained on the man roster in , but the Giants never entertained the idea of him getting one more shot with the club.
San Francisco placed him on waivers after last season where he was claimed by the Baltimore Orioles. Shortly thereafter, the Orioles placed him on waivers, going unclaimed and remaining with the organization.
Shaw was assigned to Triple-A but his start to the season was disastrous as he recorded one hit in 39 at-bats. I can think of 5 or 6 other players they never gave a fair shot to and some turned out to be good like George Foster. I think Farhan has done a pretty good job of picking up and letting go of players so far. I saw the same thing said about Brett Pill. I saw Shaw a number of times. Some guys just develop as hoped and Shaw is one of those guys.
This is absolutely true. Those who followed and know him know he adapts quick when given the opportunities.
Best wishes and luck to you Chris! Pretty crazy that this guy was supposed to be the headliner going to MIA in the vetoed Stanton deal with the Giants. The difference is Beede has shown flashes of really good stuff, Shaw never showed anything in his limited opportunities. And this is all hoping that Hiura can rebound, if not the infield is going to be one of the weakest in franchise history unless Arcia finally puts it all together.
Wasting prime yelich years and cheap good starting pitching…now is the time to push it! They are trying to hard to penny pinch right now. I am glad the Orioles kept Shaw. Never got a chance in SF. Maybe he will turn out like Mike Y. The giants got a steal when they got him from the Orioles. Time to turn the table. Now, if he can make his way onto the Orioles roster, he could return to Fenway and again face his hometown team. Please enable JavaScript to view the comments powered by Disqus.
