Why should i want to live

But we are in the right now , and who knows what could happen tomorrow or 20 years from now to make all the pain worth it. Those suffering from depression often feel tired of life. Work, school, and even daily chores can become a mentally draining routine.

Or do you want a break from your life? So many of us understandably romanticize death as a sweet release from fatigue, rejection, pain, and suffering. But we forget that death is also a release from the small things that make us happy. Some of us just really want a long nap, without responsibilities hanging over our heads.

There are much better ways to seek relief from pain and stress. You may not experience the problems anymore, but those around you will. Your family or friends will need to plan your funeral, make sense of your finances, and cope with the emotional burden of your death. Leaving will affect their lives, probably in a traumatic way. My own experiences guided me to a career in mental health writing and inspired me to become a text crisis counselor.

I know how it feels. And I know how much it matters to hear from someone who really does get it. Just a few years ago, I thought about suicide often. It took time, effort, and therapy, but eventually those thoughts quieted.

Eventually, they disappeared entirely. I believe they will for you, too. This just made them withdraw even more. It may seem like everyone has their own preoccupations keeping them busy. If talking to people you know feels too difficult, you can still talk to someone who cares and wants to help:. Again, the desire to avoid pain is completely normal. And when you feel consumed by it, suicide often seems like the most efficient way to get relief. This is a prime example of tunnel vision — or the tendency to only see one possible outcome in a given situation.

The problem with tunnel vision is that it lies. Here, too, an outside perspective can help, whether it comes from a close friend or a mental health professional. When your emotions threaten to overwhelm you, get some distance by focusing on the facts instead. Many people dealing with suicidal thoughts believe life lacks meaning or see themselves as a burden. Your situation may feel dire. The time will come when you have to move on. According to research in the Journal of Applied Psychology , our emotional state influences how receptive we are to the advice we receive.

Just as you assigned the meaning of your life to that person or thing, you can also reassign it to something else. Too often I have seen people become lost in their search for their one true purpose. Eventually, they give up and surrender—they give up on the idea that they were meant to do anything or be with anyone special, and they just end up feeling worse.

He showed me a different way of discovering my purpose. He explained I needed to surrender to my purpose. It comes from acting, putting out your best, transcending your basic selfishness and contributing to the chain of life.

It only needs your heart to be warm and present. Then you find fulfillment, and being grateful becomes something as natural as your breath. You become your own worst critic. You want things to be different. You want your life to be better. Rather than trying to define your purpose or find a reason to live, start to find yourself through your actions.

Begin with kindness. Kindness to yourself and to those around you. Small and simple acts that remind you that you respect and love not only yourself but also others. By starting with kindness, you become someone who actively contributes to life around you. You then start to embody your purpose through actions. It is exceptionally hard to pull yourself out of this predicament, and many people have a difficult time doing so. When you are depressed, nothing makes you happy anymore.

However, you can check our reasons to live list if you feel like abandoning hope. Perhaps some of them will ignite that spark in you again and prove to you that life is worth it.

Why do we need to live?
